Today in Western civ we went over more notes for the test on the renaissance on Friday the notes we took in class today were: The Church is weakened and vulnerable.  Socially: the Renaissance emphasis on the secular and the individual challenged church authority Politically: Some rulers mean to challenge the Church's political power Economically: Northern merchants resented paying church taxes to Rome the Church now had corrupt leadership. Pope Alexander VI admitted that he fathered several children. Many priests and monks were poorly educated. Some priests drank to excess, money gambled. the selling of indulgences "releases a sinner from performing the penalty a priest imposed for sins'' Johann Tetzel was a monk who sold indulgences to help rebuild st. Peters Cathedral. A monk named Martin Luther objected to this practice. He was born in Germany and he studied the trivium, which was grammar logic and rhetoric. People were dying of the plague. Today in Western Civ we took the Rome test, and I think I did fairly well on it I know that I got like 20 questions right for sure but im not sure on some of them I think I did good though and that the test was fair. But now we aren't doing anything besides wait for people to finish the test.

Today in western civ we finished the powerpoint for the test tomorrow and some of the notes I took today and the past couple days to prepare for the test; Etruscans: -came from north-central part of the peninsula. -metal workers, architects and artists Greeks: -they had many colonies around the mediterranean sea -Romans borrowed ideas from them (alphabet, beliefs and art) Latins: -descendants of Indonesia-europeans -settled on the banks of the tiber river -many streams flowed into the tiber -there was a marshy area called the forum between the hills -united states has so many things in common with Rome. Today in West Civ we took many many notes to prepare the test on Tuesday. I would write them here but I left my west civ book at school so I will post it Monday with notes -

Day 8 1.  Greco - Roman culture- The mixing of elements of Greek, Hellenistic and Roman culture produced a new culture Pompeii-Roman town destroyed by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius Virgil-wrote Aeneid-legend of Aeneus; poet   Tacitus-historian-presented facts accurately, wrote about good and bad of imperial Rome aqueduct-bring water into cities and towns 5. It forms the basis for Western languages such as French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, and Romanian; more than half of English words have a basis in Latin.

Day 7 i believe that the United states is headed toward a decline sort of like the roman empire. although, most would not agree because they only look at the good things that are happening in out country today instead of all the awful stuff that is going on almost behind the scenes. One of the only ways they can help if they get scholars or someone to do something. We have a lot of similarities and difference between the united states and the roman republic. one of the main things is that both had problems differentiating between public and private responsibilities and public and private resources. because of this, public services declined while the pockets of the public officials are large at their expense of common citizens. other similarity is the foreign wars. America has been preoccupied with wars. this includes dealing with the injuries preparing for the upcoming wars and such.  the romans middle class was crushed by cheap overseas slave labor. the rising income inequa...
